|2012-04-09||Cold War era British Army of the Rhine (BAOR), and CWR2's Nogova world|
With a combination of Trouble's BAOR vehicles and Vilas' 1982 UK infantry and airborne units, PlannedAssault lets you generate cold war era Arma2 battles for the British Army of the Rhine. As the screen shots in this update show, I've extended the unit database with BAOR infantry, airborne, armor, artillery, recce, transport and helicopter units. Infantry units reflect the cold war composition, with sections consisting of a 3 man gun group and 5 man rifle group. All BAOR vehicles are spawned empty, with Vilas' 1982 UK crew ordered to man the vehicles.
Trouble has created a series of add-ons covering most of the cold war BAOR: Chieftain and Challenger 1 main battle tanks, the FV430 series of APCs, the CVR(T) family of air transportable light armor such as the Scimitar and Scorpion, LandRover 110FFR and 101 forward control utility vehicles, Alvis 'Stolly' and Bedford TM support vehicles, and Westland Scout, Aerospatiale Gazelle and Westland Lynx AH7 helicopters.
Be aware, some of these add-ons currently have rough edges (in terms of error messages and bad textures).
I've combined the BAOR vehicles with Vilas' UK infantry and airborne units from Project '85 - US and UK Army . Vilas has created UK infantry and airborne units with cold war MkIV 'turtle' and MkII para helmets, armed with the SLR, GPMG and L2A3 Sterling, both with and without backpacks. The only thing lacking is the Milan ATGM weapon. I've configured mortar and howitzer units using these soldiers as crew, and added variants wearing face camouflage.
Sticking with the cold war theme: also available for mission generation are two 6km x 4.5km areas on CWR2's Nogova. Being based on Operation Flashpoint: 1985 's Nogova map, these areas contain no problems for the Arma2 vehicle AI and are superb for large armored battles.
I've also updated the world to weather region mapping to cover the new climates defined by the RUBE weather module.
Finally, I've begun experimenting (in the BAOR Challenger and Chieftain tanks) with a new script command available in Arma2 1.60: allowCrewInImmobile. My aim is to improve the behavior of tank crews, having them continue the fight from their immobilized tank (or stay put there) rather than advancing on foot with the mobile armor in their platoon/troop.
|2012-01-15||Cold Winter Wars with CWR2, Vilas' P85 (all for Arma2:CO)|
This update has a 'winter' theme: it adds added a winter map (CWR2's Winter Kolguljev), it adds units in winter camouflage (also from Cold War Rearmed 2). In addition, this update adds scripts that that add snow, add breath plumes, and that change camo net patterns to 'snow', for a more immersive winter combat.
Aside from that, this update adds FRG (West-German cold war era) units and US Army cold war vehicles from Vilas' Project 85 mod.
The images (from PlannedAssault generated missions) in this news update show the CWR2 Soviet infantry, Soviet Spetsnaz and US Army infantry with in winter battle dress or coveralls. PlannedAssault's' database now also includes TOW launcher teams, mortar crews and howitzer crews in winter camouflage.
Since the previous update, PlannedAssault's missions order defending units to employ camo nets (provided HcPookie's camo net add-on is loaded). In the previous update, all defending units were configured with camo nets in matching size, style and camo pattern.
With this 'winter' update, I've added a map specific override that changes all camo net patterns to 'snow'. This 'snow' override is enabled on winter maps such as Winter Kolguljev.
The benefit of this 'snow' camo net override is that regular 'wood land' units are less conspicuous on winter maps, which makes it more attractive to combine snow and regular units on winter maps. See for yourself in the 'P85 M109A3 Palladin' screen shot.
The addition of map specific scripts (such as snow, breath plumes, camo net pattern override) and mod specific scripts (camouflaged faces for some cold war era forces) reflects a recent improvement to PlannedAssault's design. I've transferred almost all scripts and script dependencies from the mission planner to the web UI and database. This makes it easier for me to introduce mod and map specific scripts, and to support mods that heavily rely on their own scripts. For this update, I've had great fun adding CWR2's snow, breath plumes and snow camo nets. Let's see what opportunities come up.
Finally, I've begun adding units for Vilas' P85 add-on, starting with the cold war West-German forces and US vehicles, and according to historic TO&E. Vilas' add-on is pretty unique in covering the cold war era with such a wide variety in forces and vehicles. And with PlannedAssault it becomes real easy to create the large armor battles that never were.
|2011-11-05||Cold War battles|
Relive the largest armored battles that never were! PlannedAssault now generates single-player missions based on cold war era units and maps, enabling you to create NATO vs Warsaw Pact battles.
Today's extension covers the Cold War Rearmed 2 add-on, some of Vilas' Project 85 units and adds a few cold war era aircraft.
The Cold War Rearmed 2 (CWR2) add-on aims to recreate the Operation Flashpoint: 1985 game and missions. For the PlannedAssault unit database, I've gone beyond that scope, recreating mechanized infantry squads according to the Cold War era TO&E (for example, M113 and Bradley dismounted squads, use of the M47 Dragon anti-tank missile). I've also enabled, through generated scripts, Arma2 / Arma2:OA features such as as crew served weapons (TOW launchers), AI manned artillery (howitzers and mortars) and camouflaged faces.
In addition, two new areas from CWR2's Everon are available for mission generation; all but the final picture here show CWR2's Everon.
From Vilas' Project 85 vehicles and units, I've added numerous US Army and US Marine Corps vehicles to complement the CWR2 units, and Cold War Federal Republic of Germany armor and mechanized infantry. For a few other (Russian Federation) add-ons, I've made available Soviet Union variants.
|2011-01-26||Chechen rebels, 1995's Russian infantry, Soviet armor, and additional French forces|
I've take a short break from improving the planner's understanding of cities, in order to offer a fresh batch of units for your mission planning. On the menu today are Chechen rebel forces, 1995 Russian infantry, soviet armored vehicles. and additional French vehicles.
The Chechen rebels units are based on colonelstagler's add-on "Chechen Rebels", which contains Chechen infantry and khaki colored soviet-era vehicles. I've also added Chechen marked BTR-70s with root top seats from RHS's BTR-70 add-on. Finally, I've added Chechen mortar units by combining rebels and empty Russian mortars.
Based on johncage's "Chechen War Russians" add-on, infantry units and static artillery units have been added. These infantry units are complemented with armor from Vilas' "Soviet vehicle pack"", notably: BMP-1's and BMP-2's IFVs, T-62, T-64, T-72 and T-80 tanks and the 2S1 Gvozika 122mm self-propelled gun.
PlannedAssault again covers all French Arma2 add-ons with the units from MAF2Ext. This add-ons provides the Mirage F1CT jet, Gazelle helicopters, several Renault trucks and an IFV.
Also part of this update are a UI change from 'WEST' to 'BLUFOR', 'EAST' to 'OPFOR', fixes to have soldiers better man empty artillery gun, correct backpack names for Hexagon's COS soldiers.
